THE FIRST SWINGS OF A LEGEND

Jack Bissegger (1932–2009) is an iconic figure in Quebec and Canadian golf, whose passion for the sport has influenced generations of golfers. Born in the 1930s, his career began modestly on the courses of the LaSalle Golf Club, where he started as a caddie before turning professional, already driven by a deep love for the game. Early on, Jack distinguished himself through his exceptional talent and dedication to golf, earning him the respect of his peers and the entire golfing community.

A CAREER CROWNED WITH SUCCESS

Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, Jack Bissegger enjoyed a string of successes on the competitive circuit, notably participating in PGA Tour events during the winter while working as a professional at several renowned clubs, such as Marlborough Golf & Country Club and Val-Morin Golf Club. On the course, he quickly became one of the most formidable golfers of his generation, winning numerous trophies, including the Quebec Open in 1963 and several victories at the Golf Quebec Spring Open.

A BUILDER OF QUEBEC GOLF

But Jack Bissegger wasn't just a competitor—he was also a builder of golf in Quebec. In 1965, he became the founding professional of La Vallée du Richelieu, a club he helped establish as a host of major competitions such as the Canadian Open and LPGA Tour events. Later, he was also involved in the creation and management of clubs like those in Candiac and on the South Shore, demonstrating his innovative spirit and his passion for the development of the sport in the province.

A MENTOR AND A SOURCE OF INSPIRATION

Jack Bissegger was also known for his warm personality, his humanism, and his generosity. Always available to help juniors or beginner golfers, he inspired hundreds of people to persevere in golf, both through his advice and the example of his own career. His influence extends far beyond the courses where he played: he helped cultivate a passion for golf among amateurs and professionals alike, leaving a lasting mark on golf culture in Quebec and beyond.

Today, his name continues to be associated with memorable competitions such as the Jack Bissegger Memorial Cup, an event that perpetuates his memory and his love of the game.
